Does taking Viagra make
a man more potent
Viagra is a drug prescribed to treat
male erectile dysfunction. It has been developed by
the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. The generic name
for this compound is Sildenafil. Viagra is used to treat
impotence in men in turn making them make sexually potent.
Viagra increases the body's ability to achieve and maintain
an erection during sexual stimulation.
The physiological process of getting an erection involves
the release of nitric oxide (NO) in the corpus cavernosum.
This release then activates the enzyme, guanylate cyclase,
which results in increased levels of cyclic guanosine
monophosphate (cGMP). It results in smooth muscle relaxation
in the corpus cavernosum which leads to increased inflow
of blood in the penis which leads directly to erection.
Sildenafil is a potent and selective inhibitor of cGMP
specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) which is responsible
for degradation of cGMP in the corpus cavernosum. This
means that, with the use of Viagra, normal sexual stimulation
leads to increased levels of cGMP in the corpus cavernosum
which leads to better erections. Without sexual stimulation
and no activation of the NO/cGMP system, Viagra would
not cause an erection.
How is Viagra a wonder Drug
Viagra is not a perfect wonder drug which can render
a man virile. Viagra does not directly lead to an erection,
but simply makes it possible. Along with physical, mental,
or other stimulations Viagra helps in enabling a man
to maintain an erection for sexual intercourse.
Moreover, the effect of Viagra is a limited one. The
users are directed to take the pill at least thirty
minutes and no more than four hours before having an
intercourse. It will help a man in having a satisfying
sexual intercourse.
Viagra enables men with Erectile Dysfunction to respond
to sexual stimulation. When a man is in state of arousal,
the arteries in the penis relax and widen, allowing
more blood to flow into the penis. With more blood flowing
in and less flowing out, the penis enlarges, resulting
in an erection.
Viagra works by relaxing specific muscles in the penis.
When these muscles are relaxed an erection is possible.
This FDA approved drug is effective for only 5 or 6
hours so that a successful intercourse is carried out.
However, nothing will happen in getting an erection
if the man does not experience some sexually arousing
situation or fantasy. This means that you cannot get
an erection just by taking the pill. The little relaxing
muscle does not make you more potent it just helps in
increasing a man’s ability to carry out a sexual
intercourse. Thus, Viagra cannot be thought of as an
aphrodisiac.
Viagra gets the blood flowing, but your brain has to
be in the mood as well. For men who have serious erectile
dysfunction, getting aroused or getting an erection
may still require extra effort. It may be partly because
of nervousness or embarrassment about unsuccessful past
attempts at intercourse.
Viagra is not intended for men who have desire disorders
such as low sex drive. However, it can be prescribed
for men who experience sexual problems such as low sex
drive due to some erection problems in the past. Studies
show that Viagra can also be helpful to those men who
are healthy enough sexually but experience some sexual
problems. It can be given to stave off impotence and
maintain a man’s potency.
It can be said that Viagra is a medicine to enhance
a man’s sexual ability and make him more sexually
active. It will help men who experience erectile dysfunction
and enable them to achieve sexual satisfaction. However,
it cannot make a man potent if he does not feel sexually
active. In other words, Viagra can only enhance the
sexual performance and not make it happen. Use of Viagra
drug can make a man more potent if he is already sexually
active and has no other erectile problems.
